Cors y Gedol Burial Chamber

The Cors y Gedol Burial Chamber stands 7 km south south east of Barmouth and is set in a superb location on the slopes of Moelfre with views looking out to sea.

The monument stands beside a trackway leading out of Dyffryn Ardudwy and dates from the Bronze Age. Little remains of the burial chamber itself apart from the capstone which leans against the cairn and a single standing stone to the east. The capstone measures 3.5 metres (11½ feet) long by 3 metres (10 feet) wide.

The burial chamber lies at the eastern side of long mound measuring around about 26 metres (85 feet) long by 12 metres (39 feet) wide A similar stone stands at the north of the portal domen with another fallen one further north. The monument dates from from around 4,000 BC.

There are many prehistoric settlements and trackways in the area
