Beddgelert Forest

Beddgelert Forest, set in a stunning location, was planted in 1926 by the Forestry Commission, replacing a previous forest in the area. The forest lies about a mile to the north of Beddgelert village and offers some superb views of the surrounding countryside.

The Forest is a popular spot with mountain bikers, most of the routes take in part of the Old Welsh Highland Railway. Cycle hire facilities are available. Mountain bikes, tandems, child seats and trailer bikes, with which to explore the area can be hired at reasonable rates from Beddgelert Bikes, the Bike Barn, which lies two miles from Beddgelert village. To find them, enter Beddgelert Forest Campsite from the Caernarfon to Beddgelert road (A4085). A large brown and white sign indicates "Beddgelert Mountain Bikes". Then follow the signs into the forest, leading to The Bike Barn.

Numerous waymarked walks have been created through the forest and picnic sites are provided. Wooden posts with numbers designate way-marked locations. Beddgelert Forest Station on the West Highland Railway, which is accessed through the campsite, was opened in May, 2006.
